Azmero Project

Amharic music with a fascinating Israeli twist

The Azmero project is the first of its kind in Israel. It brings together musicians from different cultures and generations who create and perform Amharic music with a fascinating Israeli twist: Ethiopian singing with the acoustic accompaniment of two ouds, a contrabass, and Middle Eastern percussion instruments.

The performance is based on Ethiopian love songs and philosophy and will include some refreshing performances by three Ethiopian singers who grew up on these songs: Solomon Mersha, singer and actor of both theater and film with a delicate and emotive voice will perform together with Getahun Maleda, singer, keyboard artist, and musical producer who was blessed with an earthy, rootsy, and soulful voice. The two will be joined by Ababa Dasa, another wonderful vocalist who represents a new generation of singers and some surprising musical accompaniment provided by two oud players Idan Toledano and Andrey Ilin whose new techniques have turned the oud into a universal, multicultural instrument, talented contrabass player Evyatar Hermesh, and percussion artist Ori Dekel.
